Valuka Pinda Sweda – Sand Sudation Treatment

Swedana or fomentation (sudation, sweat inducing treatments, steaming treatment) is a specialised treatment in Ayurveda which helps in providing pain relief, stiffness and coldness. The procedure induces heat and warmth in the form of steam using heated powders, leaves, processed rice, sand etc. Swedana is the best treatment for balancing Vata and Kapha.

Valuka Sweda is a form of swedana which is included under the category of Pinda Sweda (bolus formation). In this procedure we use heated sand tied in a bolus to provide to the afflicted joints and body parts, swelling and stiffness associated with diseases like Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis) Osteoarthritis, lower back pain etc. Valuka Pinda Sweda is under the category of Ruksha (dry) sweda and is best used when Ama or toxins, excess Meda or fat, swelling. Valuka sweda is a top treatment for Amavata (Rheumatoid Arthritis) The treatment should be done without prior oil massage as this is contraindicated due to excess Ama in the body. In case of high pitta where you have burning pain, redness, increase heat then this treatment is to be avoided.
